The Insight Lecture Series Feedback

Insight Lecture 1: Neuropsychology by Linda Gonzalez

Feedback

I'm in 3rd year, I felt the lecture was worthwhile and am looking forward to next one. I am interested in similar presentations from Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists and Child Psychologists.

I'm studying first year psych as a subject within a bachelor of music. The lecture on Neuropsychology got me very interested and I am going to investigate further. Great idea!

I attended the insight lecture and found it very informative and interesting. I am a third-year undergraduate student. I would be keen to hear from other practising psychologists with different specialities.

I am undertaking 2 nd and 3 rd year psych subjects. I thought the talk was excellent. Very informative, and actually inspirational to hear about what an actual psychologist does in the real world. I will attend any further talks.

I am in my final year of a Science degree. I attended today's insight lecture presented by Linda Gonzalez, which I found to be really interesting and mind opening. I would be keen to attend other insight lectures such as this one. I'm interested in research on twins as my mother is a twin. Also, on body image/anorexia.

Thankyou, I found the lecture quite useful, although mainly because I was able to ask questions.  The main speech seemed to be focused around job description - which I had expected, but I would have preferred to hear about her PhD subject matter in more detail. In any case, what I would really like to attend is a lecture from someone doing brain research.  Someone who deals with theories and clashes of ideas who could talk to us about some of the research that's being done - this 'big explosion' of the last few years that has been mentioned. I would also like to hear about what sort of universities offer good postgraduate or late undergrad programs in brain-related fields (i.e. in America or England).  Someone who is working in cognitive neuropsychology may have a better idea of who is teaching where and what places have a good reputation.  It would be useful I think for people to hear about where one should look to for later study depending on ones interests. Thanks for the opportunity to feed backwards.

I went to the lecture, I'm in 1 st year but doing 2 nd year psych subjects. I found the lecture really interesting, and my only other opinion would be to organise more in the different areas you can get into in psych.

I'm in third year psych, and I really enjoyed the lecture. It was well organised and well presented. I sort of had an idea of what I wanted to do once leaving university, but I didn't know what the profession was called or if it even existed. And now I do! The lecture completely motivated me. I think the amount of question time was really helpful too. I'd love to hear from a clinical psych and I want to see more Neuro psychs, but I think that's just being greedy!

I am currently a second year student doing Behavioural Neuroscience and QM. I thought the lecture was really interesting and enjoyed it. Forensic Psychology is another area which I find very interesting.

I was there today, and am currently doing 2 nd year psych in the 3 rd year of an Arts/Science degree. I was really interested in today's session, and it certainly gave me an insight into the workings of a "real" psych. As an idea for another topic, I'd love to hear from a school/adolescent/young person psychologist/clinician and their job.

I'm in 4 th year Uni but doing 3 rd year level Psych subjects. I found the session very interesting and useful.

I'm a second year psych student and couldn't make it to today's lecture. But I'd be interested in hearing from a developmental/child psychologist!

Well the lecture was interesting in it's own sense, technically I'm not interested in the Neuropsychology section of Psychology and therefore didn't find the material too useful, but I'm sure others found it useful. If there could be lectures by clinical or industrial psychologists that would be good. Another good point about the lecture session was that the guest speaker talked about the employment status for neuropsychology which I found to be quite interesting, if you could find some information like that for the other sections of psychology that would be really cool. But all in all, thanks for organising it, it was cool.

I am in first year psych (though I have been at Melb for several years and am not a first year student otherwise). I chose to do psych largely due to the varied applicability that this subject has. I attended the lecture today and I did find it useful. However, I feel it may be more beneficial if there were several speakers who have gone into more varied vocational areas. That way, it is likely to cater for more student, and perhaps introduce some students to the variety of opportunities available to Psych students that may be less obvious initially. I would also be useful to be able to compare, especially in a 'forum like environment'. Hope this may be helpful?

I'm finishing off my 2 nd year level psychology subjects this year. The lecture was good in that it gave undergraduate students a feel of where the studies can lead us, as well as learning some of the real applications of psychology. It would be great if lectures such as this one are given in the future but on different topics such as clinical psychology and developmental psychology etc. This will help us in choosing third year level subjects. Thanks for organizing the lecture.

I'm doing all five 200-level psych subjects this yr as part of my B.Sci. I found Linda Gonzales' presentation fantastic. It was riveting and provided exactly the insight the lectures are there for. I will definitely keep neuropsych in mind as I continue through my course (..and hopefully honours & beyond). I think the time balance of half-presentation, half-question time proved suitable as many people obviously had many questions. I would be keen to see presentation from people in the fields of - Organizational/industrial psych, Research, perhaps with a stats emphasis, educational psych. research. I look forward to the next in the series.

Currently I'm a 3 rd year psych student and I attended the session today. Although the topic discussed today on Neuropsych was not of my particular interest, I though that the whole idea about having Psychologist coming in telling us about their experience is GRE AT !! Probably, more of such sessions could be conducted by inviting other speakers from other psychology fields i.e. Organisational or Clinical. Additionally, the department could arrange some companies, which has Vacation training Programs for Psychology students to come in as well. That would be of great interest to many students. Nonetheless, thanks for organising the session.

Hi, I attended the lecture and am in first year psychology. I found the lecture helpful. I didn't do psychology in VCE and have no idea what a psychology career would involve so I would find it helpful to have guest speakers from a range of different jobs such as psychologists who treat patients with psychological problems or act as counsellors for various situations.

Thanks for arranging this lecture. It was great: right balance between 'presentation' and 'questions'. Very informative for me personally and has increased my enthusiasm for this particular sphere/specialisation of psychology. I look forward to more of these information/insight sessions.

Yeah the insight lecture today was really good, I enjoyed it and thought it was a worthwhile opportunity. I'm in first year psychology doing the usual first year first semester psych subject (yes I cant remember what its called because my brain is so very very fried from all the study I do *cough*). I'm actually interested in either clinical or counselling psychology so, I'm not so sure how popular this idea would be (but I assume it would be a future consideration for these lectures), but would it be possible to get a clinical or counselling psychologist in to have another chat with us? I recall last year Melbourne uni had a psychology night for interested year 12 students and there was a panel of professionals in the psychology field all talking about their careers and what they do and how they got to where they are, perhaps some of those speakers would be good to bring back?? Thanks for today.

Unfortunately I couldn't attend the lecture as I had a lunchtime lecture on at the same time. I would really have liked to attended as Behavioural neuroscience is exactly the field I wish to get in to. So my suggestion is that there might be 2 time slots next time.

Unfortunately I couldn't make the talk, though it sounded really good. I don't suppose a recording of it was made?

I'm a second year student, planning to major in psych and crim. I really enjoyed yesterday's lecture. It kind of made me more aware of what my life might turn out like when I finish this course. After the lecture I actually felt that I made the right choice in studying psych. Recommendations: it would be a good idea to try and bring practicing psychologists from other fields, just so that we get an idea of what the differences are in the real world. Also, it would be good to bring someone who's finished psych recently and just started working, to tell us about current trends. Overall, I really liked yesterday's lecture and am looking forward to future insight lectures.

I am currently in my third year psychology at Melb. However, I was unable to attend the insight lecture, unfortunately. I know that the insight lecture dealt somewhat with clinical practice of psychology and I believe that further lectures (with psych graduates) concerning various aspects of clinical practice would be very beneficial, to me at least. I know very little about how psychology is actually practiced, and would like to learn more, particularly about treatment of mental illnesses such as depression, eating disorders, anxiety and OCD to name a few.

I am a second year psychology student doing a BA/BCom (Management) degree. I wish to major in psychology, specialising in the field of organisational psychology. In commerce, I am doing a management major, specializing in HRM. I wish to do something in HRM, where I feel that having a major and honours in organizational psychology will compliment it well, however, it would be good to know exactly what it involves and how it is regarded in the workplace. There haven't been many seminars on this area so it would be greatly appreciated if something could be made available.

Whilst I had been planning on attending the session yesterday it turned out to not be possible. I was wondering if it had been taped, as I would be interested in hearing it if possible.

I am enrolled in 2 nd year psych. The lecture was good, she can interact and answer many questions pretty well.. But when I heard about how she got her jobs, that it, mainly by maintaining connections with other people, just wondering though, whether there is any other people who got their job without any connection at all? And I'm particularly interested in hearing some experience from organisational/industrial psychologist. Thank you for the insight lecture program, I find it really helpful because I had no idea about the real job in psych at all. Now at least I have a rough description on how it actually works.

I'm doing 3 rd year psych. Thought the lecture was really interesting and would really appreciate similar lectures in any/all other areas of psychology.

I found the insight lecture most interesting. I am a 3 rd year student. I would be very interested in hearing from a clinical psychologist later in the year.

I'm currently doing second year psych, and I found the insight lecture really valuable - it was great to hear exactly what neuropsychologists do and what opportunities there are out there for them. I would be really interested to attend any future sessions on the opportunities that a degree in psychology offers to work with children as well as clinical psychology.

I am currently studying in Intro to Exp. Psych and I felt that the lecture was helpful in deciding which direction it is that I wish to take in Psych. I think it would be great if you could arrange for a clinical psychologist or maybe even an organisational psychologist to come and talk, just to help define which areas people are interested in.

First of all I'd like to send you a big thanks for giving us the opportunity to learn about people, their careers and how we can apply psychology. I found this weeks insight session well presented and educating. It helps to know what's out their after uni. To be honest, the main reason I attended the lecture was because I love to learn about people, especially people who enjoy what they do in life!! Psychology, and insight lectures really give a person an understanding of what goes on in the world. I'm still looking for a career that I can set my heart on too, so I'll be at your upcoming insight lectures! Thanks for the invite and I what I've written has been of some use.

I'm a third year psych but unfortunately had a mid-semester for another subject. I'm looking forward to some follow up ones though.

I am a second year psychology student and I found the insight lecture both interesting and helpful. I am interested in developmental psychology and found that to some degree this area was covered in the lecture but would like to hear from someone who has perhaps a more extensive knowledge of career options and advice about this area.

I am a fifth year BSc/BA student who is currently doing 3 rd year psych subjects. I went to the insight lecture because I am thinking about applying for honour and perhaps further study in psych. I enjoyed the lecture and found it helpful. I am disappointed that in my five years at university this is the first time we have access to such practical information. I also believe that there are a large number of students, like myself, who would love to have a work experience program incorporated into their undergraduate studies - even if this means observation (not necessarily directly with clients because of legal issues involved) of the daily processes a neuropsych or any other clinician goes through. Expecting students to work hard to gain entry into honours without even a basic level of exposure to the field is a big ask and perhaps something the university of Melbourne and those involved with the psychological society could think to survey students about. Thanks for the opportunity to hear such valuable information as was given at the insight lecture.

I'm in 3 rd year, majoring in Psych, and studying Behavioural Neuro and Developmental at the moment. The lecture was great and I hope there's more. The lady, Linda? Was very informative, I especially liked her opinions on availability of work for a neuopsychologist, and her interactions with other member involved in the patients treatment. Even though we heard about her hours and a bit about her involvement with fMRI's, I would have liked to hear more about what she actually did on a day to day basis. She was very friendly and informative and experienced, and was great with the Q and A's. Although this may be boring for many other, I would like to hear from someone who primarily does research, and how they got there, who they research for etc.

I attended the insight lecture on Neuropsychology and found it very interesting. I'm in 4 th year of an Arts and Sciences degree majoring in Psych and Anthropology. I'm expecting to finish next year and want to apply for honours in Psych. It does concern me that only a small percentage are admitted into honours and I would like to know what my other options are for going on with Psychology. The talk was very helpful because it gave me a good idea of what the job entailed. It was good to know there was plenty of work available. It also made me realise that I may be more interested in a broader area of psychology. If you could get a Health Psychologist in to speak I would be very interested because its an area I know little about but think I would enjoy as a career. Thanks for the lectures, I will definitely go to more in future.

I thought the lecture was very helpful - some practical insights into professional life are always good I think. I'm a second year doing a Grad Dip in Psychology and would be interested in seeing more of these presentations - when are you getting a clinical psych to speak? Maybe a child specialist? Thumbs up from me.

I'm a first year psych student. I thought the lecture was really really beneficial and worthwhile. It was really interesting to hear about experiences that only an actual Neuropsychologist would know about. It was great to gain an insight into what the job constitutes on a daily basis and question time was good too. The lecture proved really interesting and very helpful for me personally. Thanks.

Hi! I attended the insight lecture held the other week and found it very informative. Something I've always felt that Melbourne Uni lacks is information filtering back to the students from professionals in the fields of study. I'm in my 4 th year of a double degree and would appreciate many more lectures from professional psychologists working in many different fields - that way we can find out what's out there in our areas of interest and realistic employment opportunities. Thanks and bring in some more insight!

I'm 3 rd year Psych and thought the talk was very worthwhile as it is very difficult to gain insight into the practical side of many psychology positions, especially because it is hard to get work experience etc. It would be great to have a similar lecture on a few other areas of psych, maybe counselling, or something to do with clinical psych. It is all very helpful because at this stage, even in my last year, I know I want to continue with psych but it's hard to know what area to pursue. Thanks.

I found the insight lecture really useful. I'm in third year and although I am not planning on doing neuropsych I found it interesting to hear her talk about what she does. I would be interested in hearing a developmental psychologist talk - someone who is involved in working with people rather than undertaking research.

The insight lecture was very interesting and informative. I liked having the opportunity to ask lots of questions, which were all answered carefully and with patience. I'm in 1 st year (grad. Dip.) and am interested in lectures that provide info on different aspects of work in psychology and different career paths in psychology. Thanks!

Insight Lecture 2: Clinical Psychology by Sarah Bendall & Eion Killackey

Feedback

I'm a second year psych student enrolled in all the psych subjects offered this semester. I found the insight lecture really valuable, and definitely worth attending. It was helpful to have two psychologists from the same field present so that you could get a different perspective and broader reply to some of the questions asked.

Hi, I went to the insight 2 lecture and I found it really worthwhile and interesting. It was great to hear of some possible career options in psychology and the paths that the people had taken to get there. It gives some idea of what there is to work towards. Perhaps one with a counselling psychologist would be good also? Keep them up!

I'm in my second year of Psychology and I found the lecture extremely helpful. It was great seeing an actual practising psychologist talk about what they do and what it means to them. The QnA session was great as it answered a lot of questions I've had for a long time. I was interested in knowing more about the kind of settings that they worked in or what else they could do with the qualifications they have (what specifically we can do with our psychology degree at its various levels - BA, Masters, PhD). I'm also interested to know what sort of psych-related things I can do/jobs I can apply for while I'm still a psychology undergrad. Thanks for organising the event and I look forward to future ones like it!

I attended the lecture today, and I thought it was extremely worthwhile and insightful about the realities, negative and positive aspects of being a clinical psychologist. I'm in third year, and I also would love to have the opportunity to attend more insight lectures particularly in areas such as organisational psychology as well as educational psychology. Thank you.

I'm enrolled in 3 rd year psychology and I found the insight lecture highly informative. I also believe that lectures in a variety of occupational fields of psychology would be very helpful, and perhaps it is even worth the lecturers of specific classes to pay mention to the insight lectures, as the level of awareness around campus is not extremely high.

Unfortunately I was unable to make either of the insight lectures but was wondering if they were going to be run again in second semester?

I am very disappointed that I couldn't make the session today, is it possible to get a copy of any slides that were used? Thanks.

Year 2, Grad Dip Psych, loved it... brilliant... as my goal is clinical psych I found it quite inspiring.. Both the presenters were wonderful... glad to attend and hope to hear lectures from more clinical psychologists in the future.

I am a third year, arts/science student. I found the lecture today really interesting and felt they painted a more realistic picture of life as a clinical psych than I had previously. Thanks.

I'm a second year student and am finding the insight lectures really interesting. Today's was good because the speakers were very honest and got to the point with their answers. I found the information on PhDs and finding work particularly interesting. Since it is probably safe to assume that all students are interested in hearing about salaries, hours and job availability it would be helpful if these topics could be covered in the talk (i.e. without a student having to ask). I also would have liked to hear more examples of their daily activities in their jobs. Thanks for organising these lectures for us, as a student in a number of faculties I know that it is not something that all faculties provide yet is obviously very helpful. My particular area of interest in Org. Psych so it would be great if this could be covered in one of the future lectures.

I found the insight lecture to be again very informative and interesting. The fairly lengthy question time is great as it gives people a chance to find out what they want to rather than what the presenters may guess we want. The technology failure was a slight annoyance and hopefully won't occur again.

Excellent once again. Informative, practical, inspirational.

In regards to the Psychology Insight Lecture 2, I felt it gave a good understanding on what Clinical Psychology is all about. Pitty about the slides not working! It would be good to have more of these information lectures on other areas of psychology and neuroscience. I am enrolled in 1 st year BSc doing psychology electives. Thanks.

I am enrolled in first year Psychology (512120). I found last Tuesday's insight lecture to be a positive experience. It provided us with practical insights into the clinical psychological setting. The opportunity to hear specific cases assisted in ascertaining what this particular domain of psychology is really about. It was also good being able to ask specific questions relevant to our own personal interests.

Very good - really helpful, good down to earth speakers. Would be interested as well (if at all possible) to hear from other clinical psychs in slightly different areas, with slightly more experience etc.

I am in second year doing the Grad Dip in Psych and I thought the last insight lecture was great. Both speakers were honest and open about what they do and were very willing to share information. I think its really helpful to have these lectures about the different areas of psych for both inspiration and help to decide on what path to take.

I'm in 1 st year psych and attended the clinical psychology insight lecture. It was a great lecture and they answered a broad range of questions very thoroughly. Well done.

Thanks for arranging the insight lectures. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn what its like to be a clinical psychologist. I found that it was really useful as it provided both the positive and negative views on being a clinical psychologist. I did not expect that there would be so much work involved if I were to take up a doctorate. But this is good because students would know what to expect if they do take up the course and would be mentally prepared for it. I currently doing a double degree in Commerce and Science, and I am in my fifth year. I feel that greater value can be derived from these insight lectures if representative from our clinical psychology department had attended the lectures and gave us more information regarding honours/masters and doctorate in Melbourne uni. Yesterday I walked away feeling really motivated to be a clinical psychologist but yet I didn't have much information about what it would be like to do honours in Melbourne uni and how much would it cost. I am also interested in learning more about organisational psychology. It would be fantastic if the department could arrange for an insight with organisational psychologists. Thank you for providing the psychology students this opportunity to learn more about the real world of psychology.

I'm a 3 rd year community access student. I enjoyed yesterday's duo-presentation. A different view of career pathways in psychology from the first presentation. Look forward to future presentations. Pity about the IT/AV failure but I know there is very little that you can do about it (in the Lyle lecture theatre anyway which I gather has a "reputation" in this regard) other than try and book a different lecture theatre at lunchtime. (However, there were also several of the lecture theatre "down lights" (not the fluorescents) were constantly flickering which probably contributed to my last night's migraine. Hope something can be done about these). Thanks for the efforts to organise the series. I expect that future presentations will be next semester.

I felt the second insight lecture was really interesting in terms of finding out how consuming clinical psychology can be. It wounded very rewarding but I think I would like to hear about some areas of psych that deal with non-pathological people (if there are any! Well not psychosis anyway) and we also already hear a lot about neuropsychology. I would be interested to hear about a counselling or health psychologist. I am in 4 th year Arts and Sciences majoring in Psychology and am doing level 3 psych subjects.

Is there any chance of Insight lectures later in the afternoon to enable the postgrad working folk to attend? Or. A get together night with some of these folk to talk to in an informal setting!

I am a grad dip student, in my third and final year. I found the insight lecture informative and it confirmed the avenues necessary to take in pursuing a career in Clinical psych. I think it is most relevant for the undergrads as it gives them an idea of what they can do with their degree and what options they have in terms of employment, etc. For myself, it reiterated what I already know and clarified a few points.

Insight Lecture 3: Organizational Psychology by Debbie Bonnici and Anita Tesoriero

Feedback

I attended the psychology insight lecture yesterday. I found it really interesting and very informative especially since I was not quite sure of the work that organizational psychologists actually do, so I found the lecture really useful. I thought both Debbie and Anita were great speakers too, it was good to hear from organizational psychologists who work in different fields to get a better understanding of the different types of jobs available. I found their advice and feedback about their experiences really helpful. I've been to the other insight lectures as well I think theyv'e all been really good and provide a real insight into the work that different psychologists do, so thanks for running them!

Hi, I thought it was great. Its good to see what kinds of areas people can go into after uni.

I am a first year psychology student, and I wanted to attend the insight lecture on organizational psychology but was unable to make it. Is there a transcript of the lecture or their speeches available? If so, could you please email me a copy - it would be greatly appreciated!

I thought the insight lecture was most helpful. The mention of the close relationship between marketing and psychology was extremely pleasant to hear as I am currently looking at enrolling in marketing course after my arts completion. Hearing this insight into the industry and confirmation of the relevance of psychology in this field as well as insight into the type and variety of jobs was extremely helpful to me for my plans for the future.

I thought that the lect on organisational psych was great. I went to most other insight lectures and all of them were great in terms that they provided me with "insight" into how it is to have a particular branch of psych as a career. Finally, I thought that maybe I could consider organisational psych as an option and for now I think I will stick with it. These insight lectures are a great idea, not many courses or even unis have them, and students are left in the dark as to what might the real, out-there in the world, application of their course be. Thanx for these lectures.

I attended the insight lecture and found the context extremely useful. The key value that I found in it was gaining a sense of what Anita and Debbie felt was relevant and important in the respective roles they had, and how it has unfolded over the course of their careers. Often, in reading about the application of knowledge to a practical setting it is difficult to understand what is important and what is there just to flesh out content. I found the women's descriptions of their experiences very informative in clarifying this, at least from their personal perspectives. I also found the complementary viewpoints of applying Org Psych to both HR and Marketing quite refreshing, as I can see the significant contribution that psychology can make in each (my current role is leading a small company in both of these domains, so I am sensitised to the value for each!)

The insight lecture was definitely very helpful. It did clear up doubts and questions I had about organisational psych, and it did give me an idea on what to expect from the industry. It helped with planning my postgrad options, although no mention was made about the different ways to break into the industry. For example, if organisational psych is open only to those who've done their masters in applied psych, or if there are ways for those with only a bachelors' degree to get a foot in the industry as well. That would have been really helpful on the kind of options I can explore after undergrad ie. Whether to get work experience before exploring postgrad option or just going straight into honours and masters before looking for a job. All the same, I really enjoyed the lecture and appreciate the effort all of you have gone to give us this invaluable insight! THANKS!

I would really love to attend some of the insight lectures but unfortunately cannot make it during the day due to work commitments! Is there any chance for after hours lectures?

I had been really looking forward to going to this lecture, but was unable to make it because I couldn't get more time away from work. Other grad dip psych students have expressed similar problems. Perhaps having one at the end of the day might help.

Unfortunately I have had a tough time making it to insight lectures although am looking forward to viewing the video recordings of them when they are ready. I will be especially interested in this I/O psych one.

The insight was really useful. After I attended the lecture, I have more ideas about what is the field that industrial and organisational psychologists work for. Actually I did have a wrong assumption on their field before, but I'm pretty clear now. I really enjoy the insight lectures.

I did not go to the Industrial Organisational Psychology Insight Lecture, but I would like to say that I really appreciate the effort you have put into these lectures series and I really wish for another lecture on Clinical Psychology to be presented as I missed the last one due to a clash in class.

Unfortunately I had to miss out on the I/O Insight lecture as I had to work. I have attended one in the past and find it a very valuable way of getting first-hand information on different career paths in psychology. I am definitely interested in attending more of these in the future and would even welcome a repeat of the I/O insight lecture. Thanks to the psychology department for providing us the opportunity to attend these lectures.

Thanks for organising the lecture. I thought the lecture was both interesting and helpful. I particularly liked having two speakers because it gave a more broad insight into the field. My only comment is that it would be great to get some general information about working conditions (pay, hours etc.) and job availability in the field, as well as recommendations regarding masters v. PhD. Though the speakers were happy to discuss their experiences it was difficult to determine whether their experience is the industry standard. I think it is fairly safe to assume everyone would like this sort of info but it can be uncomfortable to ask about, so it would be great if the speakers were a little more forthcoming.

Is it possible to have more than one insight lecture on organisational psychology? And perhaps on other areas of psych as well - clinical, social, forensic, community psychology? I was unable to attend the organisational psych insight lec due to other commitments and found it a pity that there wasn't another one where I could go for.

I am doing 2 nd /3 rd year psychology subject with a view to completing a psychology major and further study. I attended the organisational insight lecture and found it useful to understand how psychologists can integrate into broad contemporary roles. Thankyou for organising the lecture - I found it more interesting than I had hoped. I was particularly interested in the career focus of the talks. I wondered how the APS guidelines and membership impact on organisational psychologists' jobs and although I didn't ask, I would be keen to find out. Next time, maybe..

I attended this lecture and found it useful. It gave me more of an idea of what the jobs discussed actually involved - not just the outcomes or purpose of them, but what the day to day activities are (I found the first lecturer (sorry, I can't remember their names) better in respect to this - the second lecturer was OK but seemed to use a lot of buzz words/jargon rather than saying what she actually did). However, I found that both lecturers were good in terms of illustrating possible career paths and how things might pan out. They both got me thinking about different sorts of jobs that were available and what these might be like in real life, rather than just reading about them.

I'm finding the lecture series really good, I'm in 2 nd year psych and have no idea which area I would like to go into. I would be interested in hearing from an educational psychologist. I went to the psych careers session too, and an ed. Psych person spoke briefly there. If there are other psychology options along these lines it would be good to hear about them too.

Insight lectures are fantastic! Would definitely be interested in attending future ones.

I attended the I/O Psychology lecture and I thought that it was very informative and interesting. I was already considering a career in I/O Psychology, so the lecture really gave me a glimpse at what it would be like. I would attend more insight lectures. In particular, I'm interested in clinical psychology and the research profession (developmental, cognitive, social, and evolutionary psych). Thanks!

In response to the insight lecture on organisational psych, whilst I am not interested in the field myself, it was valuable to gain some practical insight in regard to the field, and what an org. psych path might entail. The two speakers provided interesting, yet varying experiences of the field, and were open to questions which was appreciated. I'd definitely attend more of these lectures in the future, and think that the opportunity to gain insight into the 'real world' of psychology is really valuable. It's nice to know all of this study is actually heading somewhere!

I did not attend the insight lecture, but would be interested in doing so in the future, if there is any possibility of holding them at a later time. I know that there are many students like myself enrolled in the Grad Dip who struggle to attend these events due to work. I appreciate that it's difficult for you to cater for everyone (especially those demanding grad dips!), but maybe there might be the possibility of later lectures in the future.

I didn't actually attend, but a woman I'm doing the course with (who has an interest in org psych) attended. She may not have had much time to reply to your email, because she has been extremely busy. Anyway, I thought you might like to know that she told me that she found it really interesting and useful. Just thought you might like to know. I have been interested in the subject matter of a couple of lectures, but unable to attend due to time constraints. Nevertheless, I appreciate the time and effort you put into organising such events.

Unfortunately I missed this lecture due to illness in my family, otherwise I would have loved to have been there. I am especially interested in Organisational Psych as I work as a Management Consultant. I hope you continue them as I am keen to learn from people in industry. I hope you can get someone who works with management to improve welfare and performance of employees and work teams in the future.

Hi, I found the insight lecture very useful especially because it helps to get a realistic perspective on the nature of potential jobs that specialisations in the course can lead to. Could there be a lecture with some focus on networking and from students who didn't go through the honours program. As I found one of the guest speakers from psych careers to be quite insightful and offering help if you need to follow an alternative path to honours.
