Rebecca Jones
Graduate Diploma
Rebecca completed her Bachelor of Commerce (Economics)/Bachelor of Arts (Indonesian) in 1998 and has been working in the Finance sector. She decided to take up the Graduate Diploma in Psychology in 2006 and hopes that one day she can work in the field of organisational psychology or to work with children.
"I decided to pursue the Graduate Diploma almost 8 years after I graduated in 1998. I have always had an interest in psychology since I did it at school but had never pursued it. As I have been working in the finance area for a while, I decided that it wasn't something I wanted to be doing in another 10 years' time. I then started thinking about what else I'd like to do. So while this GradDip course is more for personal interest at the moment, I am also hoping it may lead to a career change.
One of the major challenges I face is getting back into the mode of studying! It has been a long time! I needed to manage my time well so I can fit in time to study while working full time. I have been lucky though, that work is quite flexible so I can leave my office a little earlier to make it to lectures. At times, when we're really busy at work I ended up missing classes. I then make sure that I devote time to catching up on what I missed in class eventhough sometimes that is the last thing I feel like doing after a long day/week. Its great therefore that everything is online - probably one of the biggest changes since I was last at university and it certainly makes things a lot easier.
I started the Graduate Diploma in Psychology since mid 2006 and though it is hard work, I have found it very stimulating and interesting so far. And while it is probably still too early to say... I am really enjoying the course thoroughly. "
