Dr Kate Crowley
PhD Graduate '01

Dr Kate Crowley commenced her PhD in Psychology in 1998, specialising in the neurophysiology of EEG processes during sleep.  Following the completion of her PhD in 2001, Kate then joined the Human Sleep Laboratory at Stanford Research Institute (SRI) in California, USA, as a postdoctoral fellow, advancing to the role of Senior Scientist while investigating the impact of (and correlations between) alcoholism and normal aging on sleep and brain structure. After almost 3 years at SRI, Kate returned to Melbourne, where she joined Sleep Diagnostics, a global leader in drowsiness detection technology.  Kate is currently employed as the Senior Scientist in the research and development team at Sleep Diagnostics, focusing her efforts on further development of commercial drowsiness detection systems for truck, train and heavy industrial equipment operators.  Kate's role involves fundamental R&D activity in addition to liaising with and advising clients, which currently include Toll, Pacific National and Harvard University.
