As an academic clinical neuropsychologist, I have been mostly associated with the Royal Melbourne Hospital over some twenty years. During this time I have supplied a part-time clinical assessment service to a variety of departments but my longest association has been with the Epilepsy Program for this Hospital. Recently I have been attached to the Royal Park campus of the Hospital, so that I am able to pursue my research and clinical interests in Rehabilitation. Although much of my past research has focused on memory rehabilitation and problem-solving, my most recent academic interests are within the area of emotional dysfunction and affective neuroscience.
Research Interests:
- Emotional and Social Dysfunction following brain damage
- Modeling emotional systems through the observation of Psychophysiological response to emotionally evocative films in brain damaged patients
- Clinical issues associated with the Rehabilitation of brain damaged patients
- Problem-solving and Frontal lobe Dysfunction
Recent Topics of research interest
- The Development and use of the Emotional and Social Dysfunction scale. Work has been completed on a wide variety of patients e.g MS, Epilepsy, Brain Tumour, Stroke.
- The investigation into Depression in Stroke and how this may be ameliorated by psychological intervention.
- The analysis and treatment of poor compliance to treatment in stroke outpatients.
- An investigation into the correlates of poor social and emotional competence in stroke and brain surgery patients.
