Interested in undertaking an internship in the Community sector?
Students currently completing 2nd year Psychology are invited to apply for this new second year Arts subject – Community Volunteering for Change which is being offered in 2nd semester 2011. https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2011/SOCI20012
While this subject will not be counted as part of an APAC accredited undergraduate psychology major, students interested in a career in psychology might find it a valuable additional experience to their psychology studies.
In addition to course content covering community development issues, students will also spend 80 hours with a community organisation working on a project of real meaning.
Examples of these might include: a placement with a mental health agency looking at cross cultural issues; a project with a local council examining community services strategy; a project concerned with the issue of homelessness with a community service organisation – just one of many possibilities.
This is a great opportunity for Psychology students to gain some practical, hands on experience in a community setting.
If you wish to enrol for this subject, you will need to do so as soon as possible. To enrol, please email Nadia Aly in the Arts Faculty naly@unimelb.edu.au. It is important you do this as soon as possible to allow any difficulties with timetabling community placements alongside of psychology classes to be addressed.
